The Adventurer campaign is action-focused, guiding you towards combat. You're encouraged to pursue both options, as Port Royale 3 has two campaigns. Cannons are useful tools in this turbulent time, but a savvy trader can easily become a force to be reckoned with, wreaking havoc with their coin purse the same way pirates use cutlasses. You can ally yourself with the Dutch, French, English or Spanish (or any combination thereof depending on how they're currently allied), and then get to work at establishing yourself. Port Royal 3 takes place in the Caribbean, where you attempt to seize control of it and carve out a life for your burgeoning empire during the period of European colonization. In life many of us spend our time being generally good and honest, so games like Port Royale 3 offer the perfect opportunity to let our inner-bastard come out. Meanwhile, why not sell them resources they're in dire need of at an inflated price? Rinse, repeat and profit till your coffers are full. Then you just watch the colony as it withers, offering their beleaguered citizens jobs on your ships or in colonies you like or control. Sure, you could attack their ships as they leave port, either illegally as an unaligned pirate, or by getting permission to do some privateering in the name of a King you don't care about, but you could also sabotage their production. They range from the small pinnace, to a large ship of the line. There are a total of 12 different ship types available to players, of increasing cost, efficacy in battle and room for cargo. Treasure maps, purchased in pieces from around the game board, can also lead to newfound wealth and even the creation of a private port.Īn important part of the game are the colonial nations in the Caribbean ( Spain, France, England and The Netherlands) and their relationships. Missions include armed transport and tracking down lost relatives that have been kidnapped by an NPC called Axesmith (whom the player can choose, eventually, to defeat outright in battle). Players can visit governors in towns and accept missions from them as long as their reputation with the country is good enough. There are also many other activities in the game besides trading or hunting down pirates. It is an open-ended game and the players can choose any type of career that they wish, including trading and interactions with pirates (including privateering). They announced also that they were already working on the third title which is named " Port Royale 3" and it was released for the PC and consoles – without mentioning which consoles was meant. On Augthe publisher Kalypso Media who purchased many of the licenses and assets from Ascaron Entertainment during its insolvency, announced that they had acquired the licences of the Port Royale installment. The sequel Port Royale 2 was released over a year after in September 2004.
